To most of us , the bound of origami are somewhat well established : You have your Harold Hart Crane , your elephants , and your paper footballs . But one C of artists around the world expend origami as a technical theoretical account for take original artistic creation — and now , 88 of those creative person are getting a high - visibility show of their work .
At New York ’s Cooper Union this calendar month , an exhibit calledSurface to Structurewill bring together nearly one hundred pieces of contemporary origami , array from fashion to animals to avant - garde art . The exposition was funded onIndie Go - Go , and it ’s a protection to the schooling ’s famed 1959 origami exhibition , Plane Geometry and Fancy Figures — the first origami expo to ever be staged in the US . The musical theme behind Surface to Structure is to show how the artform has evolved since .
The opening move is this Thursday , June 19 , 7–10PM , and the show will remain on view until July 3rd . Check it out if you ’re in NYC , but if not , here are a few highlights .
