Shadows are dark . Light is hopeful . It ’s the way of the world . But solarizing images allows you to reverse this idea . And forthis week ’s Shooting Challenge , you show us another world where the normal rules of lightness do n’t apply .

Winner: Tree At Night

experiment with solarization is one of my preferred processing tricks as Man Ray is my favourite lensman . For this challenge , I shot one of the many trees in my neighborhood that are lit from below at night . I love how , as you look up at them , the branch twist and ophidian in to the dark . But for this picture show to form , I needed to let on what was hidden to center . For that , I set my Nikon D3100 for a 30 second photograph and set the aperture to f/13 to give me a relatively deep depth of field . I put the camera on the ground , point it straight up a few feet out from the tree trunk , and last set the 18 - 55 millimetre lens to 18 mm . As I solarise the picture in Photoshop , the internet of branches ordinarily hidden in the night revealed themselves . I had an thought of how I wanted this to wrick out , but the closing lead far exceeded my expectations .

Cape Cod

I drop the past workweek in Cape Cod , Massachusetts where my family line has a Summer home . This was a guess hold at sundown at the Nobska Lighthouse , my favourite lighthouse , in Woods Hole . This is a place I have grown up at every twelvemonth since I was born ( with a few exceptions ) and an field of the World that I hold back very closemouthed . If you ever have the chance to visit Cape Cod , do not communicate the fortune up . And give a little sojourn to the Nobska Lighthouse while you ’re there !

Keyboard

I liked the melodic theme of taking a shot of a piano and reverse the keys . I select this of a piano I was given by a friend , its a pretty cliche dig . I played with the tinting a act to give it more of a sepia effect . desire you enjoy .

Bobcat-Panther

I went to bring down a distant animal protection deep in Long Island today . I took a picture of a Bobcat behind double steel fences . I had to whizz in between the fences to get this photograph .

I used a Nikon D610 , with a 55 - 300 mm crop genus Lens at 1/160 with ISO 500 . As for photoshop , I first made the picture black and white . Then I added a curve adjustment layer and create a “ V ” shape short letter to have the solarize effect . I sum up a second curve to further enhance the contrast . The last thing I did was sum up a radial blur filter to produce a Dominicus beam impression amount from it ’s head . I feel this make an issue as if the Bobcat is moving or coming at you tight ! 🙂

Maxima Abstraxima

The base image was the cowl of a brand new 2016 Maxima that was being showcased at a local shopping center . I like the way the super shiny cowling of the silver metallic car was reflecting the overhead structures , and the way that the surfaces make a but of an abstract .

The image was captured with a Nokia Lumia 635 , and effigy was manually “ Solarized ” in Paint.net 4.06 .

Six Flags

We had family in town for the week and rifle to Six Flags Great America with all the kid . I took this shot while waiting in line for one of the rides and after stomach in the melody for about an minute the shadow pretty accurately reflects how we all feel ! The lighting was really abrasive so I consider working with the phantasm and reverse them would be a well fit for the challenge . Equipment : .

Leica M , Summicron - M 1:2/50 mm , 1/4000s , f/4.0 , ISO 200 , Converted to B&W and invert the pure tone curve in Lightroom .

Tuning

I necessitate a motion-picture show of my husband tune his guitar . I used a barn room access with a red gel to give a slight highlight to the guitar so it would bring out some item . This whole gaining control was a feat in itself , as my husband hates his mental picture taken .

ALICO

This is a moving picture of the ALICO construction in downtown Waco , TX . It ’s symbol of what the town was and still could be . Waco is also in the migratory pattern of the Common Grackle , and I took the shot as a massive flock was flying past . I took the shot just before sunset , a clip when the sky would still be abstemious , but the neon lights at the top of the building would be illuminated . I take on the picture with a Panasonic GH4 and SLR Magic 17 mm lens at ~f2.8 . position processing was done in Pixelmator with the method acting from the first solarize shot challenge .

Barn At Sunrise

This barn is place in rural Delaware . I pass it oftentimes , and have always wish the pattern in the stone and mortar . I stopped on my way to work early Monday dawning and took this shooter . What I care about this photo is that when the darks and lights are swapped , the barn reckon normal since it is made of random darkness and light stones , but the trees and sky expect otherworldly . Canon G7X , f/5.6 , 1/60 sec , ISO-125 . pertain up and solarized using GIMP desaturate and curve tools .

Old Hog

All aboard ! Talk about nostalgia , I snapped this shot at the New York Transit Museum on Saturday afternoon using my trusty sidearm , my Fuji X20 . Originally dart in vivacious color and solarize in photoshop . The gearing was an sure-enough pig , a car they used to extend in the early 1900s . My hiss sat on the wicker seats holding a beautiful sweetness of orange flowers , while I tear away — a ‘ Special ’ shot indeed .

Tree Fern

I was now intrigue by this shooting challenge because my 16 - twelvemonth - honest-to-goodness Logos had learned about solarisation in his photo class , and say me about how it ’s done in the obscure elbow room .

So I step outdoors and jump shoot our tree fern up towards the bright sky . And this is what I got . Taken with A Nikon D3300 with a Nikkor 18 - 55 mm f/3.5 - 5.6 , shot at f/5.6 , 1/400 , ISO 200 .

Cemetery

This is my first ever entry into one of your challenges . When I take the post I figured what the blaze , let me give this a go . I know exactly what my subject field would be … A cemetery . cemetery always look great in black and white , but I had never done any solarizing to them .

I went to Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield NJ to elicit off a few shot . It was a beautiful day 86 degrees and sunny with relatively low-pitched humidity . After strolling the grounds for awhile I come across this statue / tombstone . It stands about 8 to 9 feet marvelous and is made of solid granite . It towers above most every other rock in the cemetery . My Gear : Iphone 6 + with native camera app . Post Processing : I brought the photo into Photoshop Cs5 and did some cropping to frame the photograph better . I then used the black and white adjustment layer as well as the curve adjustment layer . After pull off the curves plant I was fairly happy with the event , but knew it need some more cleaning up . There was some very odd looking outlines between the cross and sky . I used the blur brush set to 100 % strength and traced the edge to polish it out . I then determine it needed some “ film metric grain ” to it . I gear up another layer on top and adjust it with a 50 % Zane Grey fill and set to cover . I then bestow interference set to 10 % gaussian and monochromatic . The concluding step was to do a gaussian fuzz on the noise to tone it down a bit .
