Fox released a trailer for Gore Verbinski ’s upcoming repulsion pic A Cure for Wellness today . As it find , I ’ve seen the first 30 or so minutes of the movie , which is where a lot of the first one-half of the trailer comes from . Both are full of everything creepy you could think of .
Here ’s a description of the start of the movie .
At the start of the movie , there ’s a man working away in his office , ignore a letter that arrives with a wax cachet . Instead , he drop numb . Meanwhile , a young executive played by Dane DeHaan works severely to seal some sorting of deal , completely absorbed in his body of work and his nicotine gumwood . The tiddler seat across from him draw a daimon in the fog on the windowpane . The spate closes , apparently granting DeHaan ’s theatrical role the dead man ’s recess office .
He ’s then summoned to a council chamber where he ’s given a letter from Mr. Pembroke , who is really authoritative to this generic troupe . The letter of the alphabet is the wax - sealed one the human who go received , and it ’s this voiceover you discover at the start of the drone : “ There is a sickness inside of us , go up like that bile that leaves that vitriolic gustation at the back of our throats . ” Pembroke left for a spa in Switzerland and is refuse to return .
patently , DeHaan did something illegal — just something , go with it — to close that big deal and the panel is prepared to throw him to the wolves for it . Or he can got to Switzerland and get Pembroke back so he can sign on off on a business deal for the company . ( The man who died was apparently the somebody closest to Pembroke , so there ’s no one best to send . ) Pembroke ’s either the laminitis or from the syndicate that owns the most stock — something where he ca n’t just be murder for go sick and sending a manifesto about disease to his former fellow worker , I guess .
Before he leaves , DeHaan ’s reference visits his female parent in a breast feeding home where all she does is paint small ballerina statuette . He says that his new promotion will let him commit her somewhere dainty and he ’ll take care of it as soon as he gets back and sees her again . She ominously says he wo n’t .
DeHaan takes a train to the town where the spa is located and gets in a car driven by a very talkative machine driver . The machine driver tells DeHaan , and the audience , that the spa is in a castle above the township , and that the castle and the town do n’t like each other at all . When DeHaan asks why , he ’s literally state it ’s an interesting fib . A long time ago , the erstwhile lord of the castle was obsessed with purity of blood , so he decided the only person utter enough to marry was his baby . No one agreed with that , but he did it anyway and then the village force the castling , killed the babe and her unborn tyke , and burned the castle down .
When they arrive at the palace — where everyone is dressed like a nanny or physician from the ‘ XL — DeHaan is told visiting hours are over and he ca n’t see Pembroke . He bullies his way to a man in thrill who say he can come back later and see Pembroke . He does this while very , very weirdly rick a grip on a slimly leak spigot . The facility ’s treatment are all based on the water from the land . DeHaan swears he ’ll be leave with Pembroke that night , but he ’s go to go to a hotel first .
Except he ’s not . As he leaves , DeHaan recognise a girlfriend in a white garb stand on the wall of the castle . He stares at her just as the car slams into a deer , flips over , and knock him unconscious .
I recall — but I ’m having trouble remembering incisively where in the movie this was — that this is when we see DeHaan putting a casket into a crematorium . I guess his mother snuff it ? When this happen , if it ’s just a delusion or a incubus , I do n’t have it off .
He wakes up in a room in the spa in casting . He ’s told by the man who start the spa , played by Jason Isaacs , that his office pronounce he could stay to recover because his health is so important — which seems suspicious and not at all in keeping with how the dining table was presented when we saw them blackmailing him . DeHaan is also enjoin to pledge the water that ’s there . He walks to the window where he sees that a grating to the lower levels is being bricked up . Also — as in the trailer — there ’s something alert and strike in the water he ’s booze .
DeHaan decides to rest less and keep searching for Pembroke . He finds out that Pembroke is getting a steam tub and heads down there , on crutches , to await for him . In the appendage , he ends up alone in a maze of steamy rooms . In one , for a few unrestrained irregular , he loses the doorway — everywhere he twist is a rampart track by yellow tile and not a single opening . Eventually , he find an old piece who is , apparently , the much - assay - after Pembroke .
After seeing all of this set up , I did really require to know what the perdition was going on in that castle . It ’s an interesting closed book and it ’s understandably meant to be a sluggish - burn kind of creepy motion-picture show , ramp up to all the running and dentition - losing in the drone . And you ca n’t go wrong with Jason Isaacs being the read/write head creeper in charge .
That said , it also feels like a obscure bunch of creepy images all contrive at the CRT screen at once . Small moving things in the water . People in white-hot vintage hospital outfits wandering around . Being tell you wo n’t leave or come back . The creepy young woman in white on the wall . The incest and attack backstory for the location . Being trapped in a foggy room . It ’s a lot of weird for one movie .
I ’m intrigue but also kind of worried the enigma wo n’t be deserving it . I ’ll find out when the picture comes out February 17 , 2017 .
