Well , likeNicolas Cage’sface on top of John Travolta ’s grimace , all is not as it appears .
ThoughDeadlinecalled it a remake yesterday ( same as when we first heard of this projectback in 2019 ) , per Wingard himself , it ’s not a remaking or a reboot , but a direct subsequence .

Wingard wrote onInstagram , “ I would NEVER re - suppose or remake FACE / OFF . It ’s a perfect action movie . Simon Barrett and I are write a direct SEQUEL ! ”
Wingard will be write the script along with frequent collaborator Barrett even thoughCloverfield Paradoxscreenwriter Oren Uziel was previously announced to compose the script for Paramount in 2019 . Deadline suggest previous lead Travolta and Cage would be recast though it seems more likely it would focalize on new characters .
