The Atacama Large Millimeter / submillimeter Array ( ALMA ) is in Chile ’s Atacama desert . At 5,000 meter above sea level in slender , dry desert - mountain breeze , the 66 high - precision antennas pick millimeter and submillimeter wavelengthsto peep at old , distant galaxies . After tour the observation tower camp , the vicuña was reassign to Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center at the Universidad de Antofagasta . The vicuña will undergo reclamation , with plans for release back into the desert next year .
