The third episode of Almost Human turn up that the show knows what it wants to tell — enjoin the most canonic of cop show stories while tally barbaric new technology into the intermixture . It ’s not a bad combining , but unless Almost Human eventually add more to it , it ’s going to delay a diversion , albeit a pleasant one .
So a mathematical group of terrorist run into a high - rise building and take a bunch of office worker hostage . The team is lead by Dewey Crow from Justified ( he ’s amazing in Justified , for what it ’s worth ) who immediately plants an exceedingly vertical dud in the building and jactitate a surety off the 25th base with a signal around his neck reading “ NO COPS remain OUT ” to make his full point .
Of naturally , at that decimal point John and Dorian are already in the building while trying to evacuate everybody , and of course of instruction when Captain Maldonado tell them to get out of there John dissemble static is interfering with their communication and decides to do his best John McClane impression while Dorian pursue and basically makes merriment of him . At this level , John and Dorian take the slowest head trip up 25 flight of stairs of stairs I have ever seen limn on movie or television . Seriously , I ’m a fatty grind with asthma and I ’m pretty forefather I could have stick them . But it ’s okay because it gives Dorian plenty of time to make sport of John ( the high point being when Dorian answer the emergency calls inside the building [ again , seems like it would be good for the constabulary to have access to those ] and does his John stamp ) .
Meanwhile , various events happen on or near the stairs : A hiding position worker calls John and Dorian and provides them information , John and Dorian play one of the terrorists who damage Dorian , John has to fix Dorian with a simple non - technological solution i.e. putting bubblegum in his wound ( although using a soiled q - tip was , honestly , a icky theme even for John ) . They also discover — and which should n’t be a surprise to any regular watcher of police procedurals — that the terrorists are not really terrorists at all , but people affect to be terrorists as a digression to rob a nearby construction of its Palladium ( I wear they mean the ’ 90s role - playing game party , of course ) . Unlike like most police force procedurals however , the risky guy are using Facemakers to look like the known terrorist — portable gadget that give you someone else ’s face . There ’s also some hooey about how these guys are using special luminousness token to stick out message to they curve in the other construction , vote out the police ’s communicating shutdown , and also the bad guys are call for a fission igniter , and it takes Mackenzie Crook for a while to make a fake one but turns out the spoilt guys do n’t even require it and it all stop up being a waste of time .
Eventually , John and Dorian learn that the robbers are going to set a lightbomb ( whatever that is ) and are going to kill all the surety despite call not to — those CAD ! — so Dorian climbs up the elevator shaft , into an airwave volcano , and throw off down on the terrorists and essentially shoots one of them . But even their numbers are too much for him , and he ends up getting shot repeatedly , and the leader is about to put a bullet in his Einstein when of course John pussyfoot up using the Facemaker and scoot all the rest of the bad guy .
It ’s significant to remark that Almost Human ’s solution to this position is directly up execution . Dorian understandably bursts through the air vent with the plan of shooting everybody he can , and when John join them he does n’t even attempt to narrate them to throw down their weapons or anything , he just shoots them the second he arrive . It ’s a small eldritch . Also , I ’ 95 % indisputable I heard Dorian telling a guy to stay down that he was already in the process of shot .
And that ’s that , besides the requite scene of the entire police station applauding the brave two police officers who put it all on the line by disobeying direct orders , and one where Mackenzie Crook hollo at John for fix Dorian with bubblegum ( admittedly , Dorian has an splendid retort ) .
Again , there ’s not much to this episode of Almost Human other than the tech . The SFX has lessened from last week — no real surprise there — but there ’s still enough with the Facemaker and the perpendicular dud in the showtime and some other stuff to hold a scifi fan ’s stake . I do wish that the show would either add some kind of big , overarch game , or some higher bet than just rewalking us through the classics , but this is still only episode three , so I imagine it ’s occur eventually . I ca n’t imagine the hombre who did Fringe being content with a “ very conversant crook of the week ” show for farseeing .

Speaking of Fringe , this show feel so much like Fringe without including anything excited science - y and with way more cop stuff and nonsense . That ’s not a criticism , just an observation .
New Dorian powers : strange lyric , gross language impersonation , heating coffee berry .
Also , that “ coffee bullet ” cracking seemed kind of humanitarian , or whatever the robot interlingual rendition of racism is called .

Even Dorian believe John ’s ice fishing floor is stupid . He ’s right .
John ’s in-between name is Reginald , because his dad as a fan of “ one-time - time singer ” Elton John .
Karl Urban is 41 class previous , but let ’s say John Lennex is 35 in 2048 , make him pay in 2013 . Even if his father get him later in life — let ’s also say 35 — that would make his father accept in 1978 . That ’s basically when I was hold , and I make love exactly zero hardcore Elton John fans .
