In the instalment of 60 Minutes aired this evening , Charlie Rose took a retentive and elaborated look at America ’s most valuable party , from the excessively complicated job interviews , to labor experimental condition and the CEO ’s sexual orientation .
There ’s little new in the installment — no sudden announcement about ego - drive cars , or adrone legal transfer servicefor that matter . There are a few fact that are interesting on their own ( that Apple ’s spending $ 5 billion on itsnew campus , or that 800 engineer sour on the iPhone camera module alone ) , but what stands out equally is Cook ’s posture on issues that have long plagued Apple ’s PR department .
On revenue enhancement :
Charlie Rose : But here ’s what [ Congress ] concluded . Apple is engaged in a advanced scheme to pay niggling or no corporate tax on $ 74 billion in revenues hold overseas .
Tim Cook : That is full political crap . There is no truth behind it . Apple compensate every tax dollar we owe .
On the use of Taiwanese manufacturing :
Tim Cook : China put an enormous focus on manufacturing . In what we would call , you and I would call vocational kind of skills . The U.S. , over fourth dimension , began to contain having as many vocational variety of accomplishment . And I ’m glad because I mean that some kid somewhere , some kid in Alabama , I think if they just for a moment end and say , “ If it did n’t set him , it may not bound me . ” Or this nipper that ’s getting bullied or this kid that ’s co — bad , I ’ve have notes from people contemplating suicide . And so if I could touch just one of those , it ’s worth it . And I could n’t look myself in the mirror without doing it .
