One of the good parts of The Vampire Diaries right now is the semi - malefic Klaus , one of the Original vampires who ’s also half - werewolf . ( Do n’t ask . ) So at first blush , it ’s exciting intelligence to see that The CW is thinking about giving Klaus and his Original sibling their own spinoff show , perhaps focused on their adventures in New Orleans . According to EW , the “ backdoor pilot ” for this series will air in the next few months on TVD , essentially showing what the spinoff ( tentatively called The original ) would front like .
EW explains :
The history centers around the original family of vampire and stars Joseph Morgan ( Klaus ) . In the episode , Klaus “ return to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans – a town he helped build centuries ago – and is reunited with his mephistophelian former protégé Marcel . Phoebe Tonkin , who play aphrodisiacal wolfman Hayley on TVD , is also set to asterisk .
Julie Plec is write the episode , and would also be the showrunner of The Originals if it gets picked up as a serial .
Like I order , at first blush it sounds like a great idea — except that I ’m not sure we really need two Vampire Diaries depict . I have a terrible feeling that withdraw the original away from Mystic Falls would leave us trapped with Elena and the Salvatore Brothers , and the amount of ego - medicine that might be ask at that full stop would almost certainly lead to irreversible brain damage . Also , I ’m not sure who you steady down for in a show about Klaus and his sib — every show needs a relatable main character , who ’s rarely the undisputed audience ducky but is the rock and roll on which all the other lunacy is built . And for TVD , that ’s Elena . Who ’s the relatable main eccentric in an Originals show ?
And finally , since we just got done showering Julie Plec with kudos a while ago — why ca n’t we see her make something new ? She did n’t produce Kyle XY , and Vampire Diaries was base on an existing record book series , which she rise along with Kevin Williamson . After being impressed with Plec ’s piece of work on TVD for so long , I want to see her workmanship a new mythos from the earth up . Please ?
