Encyclopedias could be fill bydissecting the relationshipbetween Rey and Kylo Ren . And not just their connection , but the fact that Rey does n’t know her parents and longs for them , whileRen know hisand rejects them . By the time ofStar state of war : The Rise of Skywalker , it seems the Logos of Han Solo and Leia Organa has all but destroyed the part of him cry Ben Solo in favour of Supreme Leader Kylo Ren . Or at least that ’s what we ’re precede to assume .
Kylo Ren himself , doer Adam Driver , was posed a question by moderator Ava DuVernay at the recentRise of Skywalker press conferencein Los Angeles . DuVernay asked if it was accurate to refer to his theatrical role as Ben Solo any longer . “ Can he not be Ben Solo or has he rejected Ben Solo and I should not use those actor’s line ? ” she ask . Driver , coyly , slid his microphone to manager J.J. Abrams , suggesting he could n’t ( or , more likely , should n’t ) suffice that question . But Abrams pushed the microphone back to Driver who said : “ Yes and no . ”

DuVernay thenexpanded : “ In your performance of Kylo Ren , did you allow Ben Solo and who he was before to influence the way you then played Kylo ? Or , once you enter into Kylo Ren , are you just in that place ? Did you add [ Ben ’s ] legacy and charity into the performance with you [ in The Rise of Skywalker ] ? ”
Driver , cautious and ruminative as ever , took a beat and answered .
“ I cogitate peradventure subconsciously , ” he said . “ When hoi polloi are actively trying to refuse sealed parts of their lives , I recall they can do it pretty successfully and then it just flex into what is happening around them . ”
“ But I do n’t think it ’s something that we actively talked about playing , ” Driver continued . “ It definitely is a cerebration to have [ and ] I think that ’s a testament to the writing . From the root , being phone ‘ Force Awakens ’ was intentionalin that it was the force awakening for both side , the luminosity , and the dark . And J.J. , even in those first meeting , talking about someone who is unformed , not in control of his faculties , [ does n’t ] know where he match , which again , is helpful for me as an actor because we were figuring out the same matter and it altogether echo what ’s going on in the story , peculiarly the first one . A unexampled cast calculate out where we fit in a legacy that spans so much time . ”
Cleverly ward off public lecture of any “ Bendemption ” that could happen or not , it sounds like in The Rise of Skywalker , Driver play Kylo as a fully upgrade , leveled - up , malefic version of the fictitious character . Any part of Ben Solo that may have been in him during The Force Awakens is choke . And yet , Driver ’s first inherent aptitude was to not do the question . He pushed the microphone to his music director . I think no matter what happens with Kylo Ren , Ben Solo will be appearing in The Rise of Skywalker , in some way .
