Google is restricting some employees ’ Internet access in a pilot program created to combat cyberattacks . An internal memo informed employees that 2,500 were selected to apply internet - spare desktop PCs during the pilot light program , but the memo was revised to admit the caution that they have the option to opt out of the program while others can volunteer , CNBCreports .
Under the new program , participating employees wo n’t have direct access to the cyberspace include running administrative commands or installing software on the designate devices . However , Google employee in the pilot group will have full net access via other devices and will still be able to access their Google Drive andGmailaccounts , while those who require the internet to in effect do their jobs will be granted exceptions , the national memoranda stated .
