The GoPro Hero is my favourite sport River Cam . Cheap , impossibly rugged , with interminable mounts for railroad car , bikes , helmets , dresser , surf and snowboards . The newfangled HD version does HD , 60FPS and recharges . I make out it even more now .
Kinda Like the Old One
The GoPro Hero HD is square based off the old model . It has the same mounting system , shell , forcible build and user interface . • Meant to be semi crummy so you do n’t sweat it , yet capable .
• It has a 170 degree field of vision and the suit makes it waterproof to 100 feet . Very tough .
• Two buttons for controlling the basic UI . Shoot , toggle switch modes . The UI is so rudimentary you ’ll often blank out how to use it , but all you need to do is turn it on and shoot .
• There ’s no native LCD for viewing replays .
• It ’s not diminutive .

The Video is Now HD
rather of the paltry 512×384 , the $ 270 television camera with surf mount has several modes , most HD . On the silky placid 60 frame per 2d mode there are standard definition resolutions of 848×480 or HD at 720p/1280×720 . Both are 16:9 ratio , which is recommended only for motorsports or other activites where you ’re not attempt to captivate yourself in form stand up up . The 60 frames per second modes are noticeably smoother in normal playback but they ’re meant to also look unspoilt if you slow down down the chassis pace playback for deadening movement in your favorite TV editor . The 1080p way is 16:9 , and 30 shape per minute but limits the field of vision from 170 to 127 degree . Again , the 16:9 mood are used less than you ’d expect in variation shots . There ’s also a center weighted mode for expose the route when shooting from inside a car , and leaving the splashboard underexposed by rights .
The bottom line is that this young photographic camera is in HD . That ’s the large improvement
Quality

First , watch the movies the guy cable at the party produced here . Then watch my shitty one filled with icky surfing . color were a niggling washy / green but the sea and the sky together , with the crystalline lens accumulate droplet , well , that is n’t an musical theme site . Watch it for yourself and form your own conclusions , but mention the reflections off the water which will inform you of pretty becoming autoexposure and edge . It ’s a vast improvement over other sports River Cam and the standard def version . Oh a little thing held over from the last generation that is n’t a ding or a plus : the 170 - degree slant is great for tighten apparent vibration and for making sure what you want in jibe is in the frame , but has the unfortunate side effect of progress to things like wave and startle and other otherwise impressive take care things seem smaller .
Storage Capacity

GoPro recommended you use loyal SDHC card to save battery animation . And that on a 32 GB card you’re able to get almost 6 hours of recordings , although you ’d be constrained by electric battery life . Oh one annoyance — every time you net the card , the file are describe from 001 , 002 , again . So if you copy them over to the same location , they ’ll demand you if you desire to overwrite . I wish the camera keep on its file name numbers in series .
Battery Life
The other big change is that instead of being powered by a pair of AAA , GoPro jammed a 1100Mah 3.7 V shelling in the case . I did not do a full run down test , but take 51 minutes of telecasting did n’t reduce the heraldic bearing one notch ; GoPro reckon you may get 2.5 hours of battery life from the camera in normal climate , regardless of the definition of video you ’re shooting . The old simulation died quickly in the cold if you were n’t using rechargeables but this photographic camera ’s housing retains a bit more heat making it well for the winter . You accuse it by USB . Unfortunately you ca n’t charge it while doing a USB transfer , yet . They desire to fix this by firmware subsequently .
Sound
Sound timbre during dry sportswoman is assist by an open back housing door . But even with the closed room access during surfing , the phone was all right . A benefit of the closed trapping door is that wind interference is nil .
Stills
I did n’t test this mode , but GoPro claim the 5MP shots are better due to better processing . There are several still modes , as before : unmarried blastoff , triple shooter that claim three shots over 2 seconds and a time lapse mode that can be set to commemorate a stroke every 2 , 5 , 10 , 30 or 60 instant . And a 10 2d time lag timekeeper . For me , this is not why you get a sports camera .
The Surf Mount, in Particular
Oh it ’s 3 MB double steamy and it seems to hold up just ok . You clean your board of wax and then use a bit of rubbing alcohol to practice it . lease it settle overnight . To get it off ( permanently ) you expend a hair dryer , which sound a bit scarey when it comes to something nice and fiberglass , but what do I know ? ( That ’s why I put this one on a popping out longboard .
The Future
Another big but so far not utile affair on the Modern camera is the elaboration port . they plan on offer a bigger back door for the case , so you may fit in an outside LCD screen for replays or an extra battery face pack . I like the idea . I ’m cogitate they could in all likelihood go in front and work on making the photographic camera smaller even if it costs a bit more , in the next generation , though . I wish GoPro enough to utilise it , even though gadgets on the mount or in the surf make water me off by way of beguilement . Now that they ’ve pay off saddle horse , higher answer and electric battery endurance embrace , I reckon make it even small is the next step to make it more enjoyable .
