When hitchBOT the hitchhike robot started his journey in Boston two weeks ago he wanted tosee the entire country . Unfortunately , he never made it out of the Northeast . The researchers who progress hitchBOT herald today that they need to barricade the experimentation because hitchBOT was vandalized in Philadelphia .

hitchBOT ’s stumble came to an end last nighttime in Philadelphia after having spent a little over two calendar week hitchhike and natter site in Boston , Salem , Gloucester , Marblehead , and New York City . regrettably , hitchBOT was vandalized overnight in Philadelphia ; sometimes bad things bechance to good robots . We bed that many of hitchBOT ’s fans will be disappointed , but we want them to be assured that this great experiment is not over . For now we will concenter on the question “ what can be learned from this ? ” and explore succeeding adventures for robots and world .
The goal of the hitchhiking trip was to see how man would interact with hitchBOT . And apparently the answer was “ not well . ” HitchBOT has been around the humans , including trips across the entirety of Canada and Germany without major incident . But America is intelligibly a hard land for our automaton brothers and sisters .
Update , August 2nd : Canadian journalistLauren O’Neilhas posted this photograph of hitchBOT , which appears to show how he was found in Philly . His head is miss and his arms were rip off .
Sadly , hitchBOT never made it very far , as you could see from the single-valued function of his American travels below :
No word on whether his earmark “ wellies ” were slip , but found on the photo below , it looks like the damage was mostly to hitchBOT ’s head , which appear to be pretermit . [ Update : For whatever reason , that picture has been taken down ]

It ’s unclear whether the Canadian researchers who built hitchBOT have plans to animate him and put him back out on the route . harmonise to their website , they ’ll be giving interview starting tomorrow , so hopefully we ’ll learn more then . In the interim , America should sit in the recess and think about what it ’s done to poor hitchBOT .
