Kelly Ripa Says She’s the ‘Angriest Patient’ When She’s Sick: ‘I’m Such a Baby’

Nobody likes being sick, but if you’reKelly Ripa, you take illness as a “personal failure.”

“You never get sick and I know it kills you,” herhusbandand co-host,Mark Consuelos, 52, said, to which Ripa agreed.

“I appreciate how — knock on wood — healthy I am until I’m not,” said Ripa, who didn’t clarify what specific illness she had, although she did say she had a fever.

And according to Consuelos, she wasn’t the easiest patient to have in the house.

“You come down[stairs] and everyone just starts backing away and you get upset that we feel like you’re going to get us sick. You get offended,” Consuelos told Ripa. “You’re like, ‘Why are you guys looking at me like that?’ Because we don’t want to get sick!”

“No, that’s not it at all,” Ripa countered. “I walk into the room and everyone starts harassing me that I’ve left the bedroom. But do you think any of these savages would ask me if I need anything!?”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,” Consuelos replied. “You can’t say that. Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.”

“You bring me things I don’t want!” Ripa said.

“No, I text you, I said, ‘Can get you anything, do you need anything?’ I know there’s other people who say, ‘Hey, do you need anything?’ And you just don’t know what you want, so you want to come down and choose what you want. But that’s not our fault.”

“I come down—” Ripa began, but Consuelos cut her off.

“Typhoid Mary comes down,” he said, referring to the infamous asymptomatic carrier of typhoid fever,Mary Mallon, who spread the disease. “‘What are these death stares? Everyone’s looking at me with these death stares!’ We just don’t want to get sick.”

But Ripa balked at this depiction of her, insisting, “I’m so conscientious about spreading viruses of any sort in my house, that I came downstairs in surgical gloves and a mask. So spare me all this, ‘Ooooh, she’s going to get us sick.’ Guess what — one of you got me sick!”

“It wasn’t me,” Consuelos said, prompting Ripa to blame their middle child, daughterLola, 22.

“Probably Lola Flying Around the World Consuelos. I like to call her ‘Frequent Flyer Consuelos,’” Ripa quipped, referencing theirdaughter’s trips to Londonto visit her British beau.

But now that Ripa’s feeling better, things are back to normal at their house — and the twosome are sharing a bedroom again.

“I finally slept back in bed last night, which was so nice,” Consuelos said, adding, “I do not sleep without you in bed. I don’t…But it was really nice. I got a good night’s rest last night.”

And although Ripa may have been, ahem, a challenging patient, she did say she was “super productive while I was ill. I became very nocturnal, I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the circadian rhythm thing, you get your sickest when it’s sort of bedtime and you get a fever. But anyway, I got everything done. Every gift is wrapped. Right? When you walked into that bedroom after being exiled—”

“It was like the movieElf,” Consuelos said, referring to how Will Ferrell’s character Buddy decorates hiscantankerous father’s apartment overnight.

“Everything was done. He was like, ‘How did this all get done?’” Ripa shared. “I was like, ‘Sick days. I make things happen. I am productive.’”
